Dr Joanne Ablett provides reassurance that it is normal to be concerned with the lifestyle changes that an amyloidosis diagnosis tends to demand. There will be ups and downs on this journey, and it may not always feel like you’re making progress. Feelings of loss are common along with grief in adjusting to chronic illness. These processes take time. As a partner of a person with amyloidosis, you can help your loved one to come to terms with changes by guiding them towards choices that still fulfil them but only demand what can be given.
Dr Joanne Ablett is a clinical psychologist with experience in chronic conditions. Her videos here focus on mindfulness and mental health, as well as how to tackle some of the tougher to answer questions a diagnosis of hATTR may raise.
