David and Libby share experiences of their shared loved one’s diagnosis: Libby’s nan who was David’s sister. For Libby, who spent most of her childhood with her nan, it felt like her world was coming to an end. David was undergoing his own diagnosis while his sister’s health deteriorated. As it was hereditary amyloidosis it meant that the whole family could be affected by the disease including David’s siblings and children which was particularly challenging. Ending on a positive note, David reflects that it has made the family unit stronger and more determined to live the best life they can.
In these videos, Libby, who used to care for her nan who had ATTR amyloidosis, talks to her great-uncle, David, who also has the condition. Together, they discuss the grief of losing a family member with ATTR, the impact a diagnosis has on the wider family, where you can turn to for help as a caregiver of someone with ATTR and how it can feel to care for someone with the condition.
