Life with ATTR

It was a long time before Patrick and Trish realised that Pat’s symptoms were something more than normal aging. Since nobody was flagging anything up, it was an extremely frustrating time dealing with all of these symptoms and not knowing what was behind them. After getting Pat’s amyloidosis diagnosis, they were both floored, shellshocked. It took a long time to process the diagnosis and it was incredibly difficult in the early stages especially. For Trish, living with and caring for her husband means that she also needs her own support network in place. Having her friends and family around has been indispensable to daily life, especially when she wasn’t okay. For Pat, he couldn’t wish for a more loving and caring partner to support him.

After being diagnosed with ATTR amyloidosis Pat, and his wife Trish were initially ‘shell-shocked’. In these videos they discuss the diagnosis, living with ATTR, how it feels to be a wife and also at times feel like a caregiver, and how they decided to tell their daughter, Gabby, about this hereditary condition.
